What kind of personal data does u-blox collect

Currently, provided we are legally permitted to, we collect your following data:

• First and last name
• Company name
• Company or personal address
• Email address
• Financial information used on our website to make payments (billing address, credit/debit card number, expiration date, and other billing information necessary to process the transaction)
• Internet protocol (IP) address
• Some behavioral data such as your website or social media use or via online tracking mechanisms (e.g. cookies).

How u‑blox uses any personal data it collects

When you provide us with personal data, we use it to:

• To Respond to your inquiry
• To Process your order
• To Send you notifications related to the products or services you have purchased, such as product change (PCN) or end of life (EOL) notifications
• To run the service you registered for on our website such as the u-blox support portal
• To Provide you specific information or offers via our website or other communication channels; and
• To Comply with the applicable laws

If you have not agreed to receive direct marketing material (double opt-in), we will not collect your data for these purposes.

How u‑blox transfers any personal data it collects

By consenting to u‑blox processing your personal data, you consent to its potential transfer and storage with other u‑blox affiliates and third-party contractors, such as distributors or service providers directly linked to u‑blox’s business, and which may be located outside of the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA). u‑blox will not monetize your personal data by e.g. selling such data to data miners and therefore will not transfer your personal data to any unauthorized third party. In relation to any transfers of personal data, we will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your personal data is treated securely and in accordance with the applicable data privacy laws and regulations.

Webshop: The ordering functionality and fulfillment in our webshop is provided by Digi-Key Corporation (Digi-Key). If you place an order for an item, that item will be sold and delivered to you by Digi-Key, subject to Digi-Key’s sales terms but also to its own privacy notice accessible when accepting the sales terms of the order at check-out.

How long u‑blox will keep your data

We will retain your personal data for as long as necessary to comply with applicable laws, our contractual obligations with you and further to our legitimate business interests. 

How u‑blox records your IP address through its website

When you access our website, your communications data (e.g. IP address) is technically generated and could conceivably relate to personal data. The collection, processing and use of your communications data will occur and will be performed in accordance with the applicable data privacy laws and may be matched with your personal data later on, namely once you register your personal data in one of our web forms and opt in to the use of your personal data for the purposes described above.

How u‑blox collects non-personal data on the u‑blox website or via your email use

When you access our website or receive and read our emails, we may automatically (i.e., not by registration) collect non-personal data (e.g. type of internet browser and operating system used, domain name of the website from which you came, number of visits, average time spent on the site, pages viewed). We may use this data and share it with our u‑blox affiliates and third-party contractors to monitor the attractiveness of our websites and improve their performance or content. If you do not wish for us to collect your non-personal data, please adjust your cookie settings. 

The data remains non-personal as long as it is detached from your personal profile and will be used anonymously for purely analytical purposes, which is the case for most of our analytics applications. But some of the initially non-personal data will also be tied to your user profile and will thus become part of your personal data set (so happening for Pardot).

a) Tracking via analytics tools

u‑blox’s website or email program uses analytics tools such as the web analytics functionality of our marketing automation software Salesforce Marketing Cloud Account Engagement (Pardot) or, for our website, Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. ("Google"). These analytics tools use cookies. In these two mentioned cases, the information generated by the cookie about your use of the website or email may be transmitted to and stored on a server in the United States. Pardot or Google will use this information on behalf of u-blox for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website or the emails, compiling reports on your activity and providing u-blox with other services relating to internet, website or email usage. Regarding your website usage, your IP address transmitted by your browser within the scope of Google Analytics will not be associated with any other data held by Google. You may prevent the storage of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser; please note, however, that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of the u-blox website. b) u‑blox’s use of "cookies"

Cookies are small text files which are transferred to your computer or mobile when you visit a website or app.

• Help us understand how people are using our services, so we can make them better.
• Deliver advertising to websites outside of Switzerland.

u-blox’s use of AI-powered Chatbot

u-blox provides an Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered chatbot (the “Chatbot”) on its website to help users find information about u-blox products and services and obtain answers to technical and support-related questions. The Chatbot is provided using technology supplied by Kapa.ai, Inc. and generates responses based primarily on u-blox documentation and other information sources made available to it. 

Use of the Chatbot is optional. You may choose not to use it and may contact u-blox through our other available support channels.

a) Personal data processed when you use the Chatbot

When you interact with the Chatbot, u-blox may process:

• the questions, prompts and other information that you submit;
• information generated as part of the interaction, including the Chatbot’s responses and any feedback you provide; and
• limited technical and usage information associated with the interaction, such as session information, timestamps and technical logs.

Depending on how you use the Chatbot and the information you provide, your messages may contain personal data. 

Please do not provide sensitive personal data, confidential information, passwords or other authentication credentials, or personal data relating to other individuals unless this is necessary for your request.

b) Purposes and legal basis

u-blox processes personal data submitted through the Chatbot to:

• provide and operate the Chatbot and respond to your questions;
• assist you in finding relevant u-blox products, technical and support information;
• maintain the security and proper functioning of the service;
• evaluate the quality and effectiveness of the Chatbot and identify areas in which our documentation and support services can be improved; and
• investigate and resolve technical issues or misuse of the service.

Where the GDPR applies, this processing is based on u-blox’s legitimate interests in providing efficient technical and customer support, making product information more accessible, maintaining the security and reliability of its services, and improving its documentation and support services, in accordance with Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. In other jurisdictions, u-blox processes personal data in accordance with the applicable data protection laws and regulations and, where required, relies on the appropriate legal basis or obtain consent. Where information is aggregated or anonymized so that it no longer relates to an identifiable individual under applicable law, u-blox may use that information for statistical analysis and to improve its products, documentation and support services.

c) Service providers and AI technology

u-blox uses Kapa.ai to provide AI-powered Chatbot. Kapa.ai processes information on behalf of u-blox for the purposes of operating and supporting the Chatbot and may engage approved technology and AI model providers as subprocessors to generate responses and provide related functionality.

Data submitted through Chatbot is not permitted to be used by the underlying AI model providers to train their general-purpose AI models. 

Where personal data is transferred to or accessed from a country outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland or another jurisdiction providing an adequate level of data protection, u-blox applies appropriate safeguards as required by applicable data protection law, as described in this Privacy Policy. 

d) Retention and access to your data when using Chatbot

To protect your personal data against accidental or unlawful destruction, loss or alteration and against unauthorized disclosure or access, u‑blox uses technical and organizational security measures in accordance with applicable law. The u‑blox website contains links to other websites. u‑blox is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of other websites.

Your questions and requests for access, correction or deletion
