u-blox fends off ransomware cyberattack

Thalwil, Switzerland – October 28, 2022 – u-blox (SIX: UBXN), a global leader in wireless and positioning technologies and services, today announced that it has come under a ransomware attack which has caused outages in several internal IT systems. According to the current state of investigation, neither customer data nor intellectual property have been compromised, production has not been impacted and recovery is far advanced.

The attack was detected and contained on 24th October 2022. Upon discovery of suspicious activities, immediate inhibition steps were taken and recovery is far advanced.

Thomas Seiler, CEO of u-blox, stated, “Due to the swift reaction of our IT team and the strong resilience of our IT systems, the company remains operational. Neither customer data nor intellectual property were compromised. Production stayed operational. Our service delivery platform and website remain fully functional.”

The cyberattack has affected the availability of the ERP system and this may cause delay of shipments. u- blox plans resuming deliveries by Tuesday 1st November 2022.

The company has engaged external cybersecurity experts to assist in conducting a comprehensive forensic review. To further reduce the risk to customers, employees and the company, internal and external experts have prepared protection and mitigation plans. Furthermore, u-blox has involved relevant local authorities to further investigate the attack and to prosecute.
