Cork, Ireland – August 5, 2013 – Swiss-based u‑blox (SIX:UBXN), a leading provider of wireless and GPS/GNSS semiconductor components, announces the opening of an LTE RF (Radio Frequency) design center in Cork, Ireland. It is the company’s fourth R&D center focusing on chip design for embedded 4G wireless communications.

 

The new center complements u-blox’ 4G/LTE baseband design activities located in Thalwil, Switzerland, Melbourn, UK and Leuven, Belgium.

 

“We anticipate a huge demand for LTE connectivity driven by next-generation applications that rely on machine-to-machine communications,” said Andreas Thiel, head of the wireless products development at u‑blox, “to achieve our goal of market leadership in this sector, we have invested in Cork, a city renowned for its high concentration of engineering talent, especially in the area of signal processing. We welcome our new team of industry-leading RF specialists”

The new office, already staffed and operational, will celebrate its grand opening on August 7, 2013. u‑blox will invest one million dollars in the new facility, and expand its headcount to 25.
 

u-blox now has R&D centers focusing on all aspects of 4G/LTE communications. The program will result in off-the-shelf LTE chips and modules serving the automotive, industrial and consumer markets.

 

u-blox now has direct presence in 15 countries, including 9 R&D centers specializing in integrated circuits and modules used for embedded cellular communications and satellite positioning.
