Thalwil, Switzerland and Heathrow, Florida, May 27, 2010 – Dual Electronics Corporation recently announced an exciting new product for the iPod touch which utilizes u-blox’ high-performance global positioning engine. The XGPS300 provides a complete, portable GPS navigation solution for the iPod touch, including the NavAtlas turn-by-turn navigation app, rechargeable battery and a car mount. The Cradle’s navigation is enabled by u-blox’ UBX-G5010 ultra-sensitive single-chip GPS receiver.
The Cradle is a unique GPS solution in that it is completely portable and universal,” said Greg Lukins, VP, Business Development at Dual. “The high-sensitivity u-blox GPS chip built into the Cradle works with any GPS-aware app, giving iPod touch owners the freedom to use their devices for in-car navigation as well as with apps for hiking, biking, geocaching, marine navigation, golfing, social networking, and a lot more,” added Lukins.
“As a leading provider of GPS technology to the consumer markets, we are extremely proud to have been chosen by Dual Electronics to supply our GPS chips for their XGPS300 model,” said Samuel Ji, Country Manager, u-blox Korea. “Our GPS chip meets Dual’s requirements for fast acquisition speed with reliable tracking performance and low power consumption,” added Ji.
The NavAtlas Navigation app works exclusively with the GPS Cradle. It features the latest US and Canada maps from Navteq which are built-in, so there is no need for a Wi-Fi connection. The app has all the features commonly found in GPS navigation devices, including: turn-by-turn voice-prompted directions, text-to-speech technology, navigating to an address stored in Contacts on the iPod, playing music on the iPod while navigating, 3D views of major intersections, over 2 million of the most popular POIs, and more. There is no subscription fee and the app is a free to download from the iTunes App Store.
The XGPS300 is marketed in North America by Dual Electronics Corporation.
