LEON wireless modem now supported by America’s largest telecommunications service provider
Reston, Virginia, March 22, 2010 – u-blox, a leading supplier of embedded wireless and global positioning semiconductors and modules, announces the official AT&T certification of LEON, u-blox’ 2G GSM/GPRS small-outline module. AT&T is America’s largest telecoms service provider and largest GSM and 3G mobile carrier with over 81.6 million wireless customers.
LEON is targeted for use in machine-to-machine (M2M) communication devices for a wide variety of applications such as fleet management, Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL), asset tracking, and remote metering. First large-volume orders have already been received for deployment in North American AVL applications.
“After intensive testing and qualification by AT&T, we are proud to announce that LEON fully meets AT&T’s stringent quality requirements in terms of RF emissions, and full conformance to their 2G wireless network standards.” said Nikolaos Papadopoulos, President of u-blox Americas. “Achieving AT&T certification in addition to FCC/IC certifications means customers designing devices for the North American market can quickly and easily implement our LEON family of GSM modules for immediate operation over AT&T’s mobile network.”
