Project 1: Cyber security requirements and protocols for IoT

This thesis will focus on studies and the applicability of different cybersecurity regulations on wireless modules targeting the growing wireless IoT domain. The work is to identify and evaluate the different security requirements and how these relates to the wireless protocols and SW stacks. The security standards and regulations to be investigated target IoT, e.g. IEC 62443 Industrial security, HIPAA security regulations for medical devices, NIST 800-53 for communication devices and IEC 60839 Access control Systems.

The following tasks to be handled and studied in the thesis work

  • Evaluate the applicability of different cybersecurity regulations on wireless modules
  • Identify the different security requirements
  • Perform gap analysis between new regulations and legacy modules

The work can be done by 1-2 persons

Project 2: IoT mesh network improvements

There is a growing interest in short range radio mesh networks with native IP support. Thread is one promising IoT protocol built on a mesh configuration based on the IEEE 802.15 standard.  The IPv6 is fully supported in Thread and provides the space needed for directly addressing all IoT nodes and devices.

This thesis will investigate routing and real time optimization of network nodes in a dynamic configuration. ….

The work can be done by 1-2 persons
