Job Title - Senior Analogue Design Engineer

u-blox is highly specialized wireless receiver and transceiver IC and Module Company.
Our designs result in advanced system-on-chip and system-in-package solutions typically including an embedded CPU, peripherals, and dedicated baseband communications modem.
The Cork design centre is responsible for the creation of IP for these wireless solutions from analogue and digital circuits up through mixed signal IP such as DAC, ADC and PLL to system level interfaces with the antenna and the higher-level communications protocols.
Additionally, advanced analogue building blocks such as sophisticated power management circuits and self-test are integrated into our products.

Analogue IC Design Senior Engineer

The Analogue IC Design Senior engineer is responsible for the concept and design of the RF/Analogue section of our next generation chipsets. This includes the complex issues of a multi-standard transceiver, the required high quality of design, the extreme low-power requirements and the cost-sensitivity of our markets which are the major challenges in the design process.
For IC design positions u-blox generally aims at a wide span of responsibilities from specification to volume production to establish a challenging and diversified work environment.
The Analogue IC Design Senior engineer defines the architecture of our next generation RF/Analogue IP specifying and implementing path and system designs. Verification through simulation as well as characterization and development of production test are among the tasks within such a development project as well as the support of Test engineers.
The Analogue IC Design Senior Engineer is responsible for many of the decisions in our design process, as well as being responsible for methodologies and mentorship of more junior engineers. Another important role of the Analogue IC Design Senior engineer is their responsibility for specifying and delivering tasks on time according to project schedule requirements.

Primary tasks

The Senior Analogue IC design engineer will show initiative, activity, and decision in:

  • Analog IC Design of circuit blocks, paths, and subsystems, ensuring performance to specification
  • Technical documentation of designs which are ready for Production.
  • Design Partitioning (RF, BB, Host)
  • Characterisation of silicon in lab including the preparation and implementation of python scripting for lab measurement
  • Definition of project plans with other senior engineers, project managers and junior engineers as well as tracking and reporting of progress.
  • Verification of analogue and mixed signal circuitry.

Secondary tasks

The Senior Analogue IC design engineer will show initiative, activity, and decision in:
  • IC tool set selection
  • Technology selection
  • Design and verification methodology selection and improvement
  • Co-ordination and management of external partners: foundries, design houses, lead customers etc.
  • IP protection (patent application research)
  • Investments/costs covered by project budget (Decisions may also be required)
  • Investments/costs not covered by project budget
  • Mentorship

Profile for this role:
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in commercial analogue and mixed signal design like wideband analogue filters and A/D converters, power management, test and verification.
  • Excellent skills in ASIC design tool usage, e.g., Cadence Virtuoso, Assembler, and Explorer.
  • Experience in communication systems IP design: Transceivers, receivers.
  • Experience in analogue and mixed signal simulation: AMS, Matlab, Incisive.
  • Experience in characterisation of designs.
  • Experience of taking design to volume production.
  • Used to working independently and precisely
  • Good communications skills
  • Fluent in English
