Position Title: Analog/RF Layout Engineer

u-blox is a highly specialized wireless receiver and transceiver IC and Module Company.
Our designs result in advanced system-on-chip and system-in-package solutions typically including an embedded CPU, peripherals, and dedicated baseband communications modem.
The Cork design centre is responsible for the creation of IP for these wireless solutions from analogue and digital circuits up through mixed signal IP such as DAC, ADC and PLL to system level interfaces with the antenna and the higher-level communications protocols.
Additionally, advanced analog building blocks such as sophisticated power management circuits and self-test are integrated into our products.

Job Description - Analog/RF Layout Engineer

The Analog/RF Layout Engineer is responsible for the translation of the RF/Analog designs created in house and with partners into the physical representation to send out for manufacture. This includes complex ICs like multi-standard transceivers which require high quality of design.
For Analog/RF Layout positions u-blox generally aims at a wide span of responsibilities over multiple design groups and product centers.
TheAnalog/RF Layout engineer works to support the design engineers in translating their circuit ideas into physical design which meets their criteria for area, and performance, as well as automating processes to make the design and redesign of circuit blocks and components easier and faster.

The Analog/RF Layout Engineer is responsible for specifying and delivering tasks on time according to project schedule requirements.

Primary tasks

The Analog/RF Layout Engineer will show initiative and have activity in:

  • Physical IC Design of circuit blocks, paths, and subsystems, ensuring performance to specification.
  • Minimisation of parasitic issues within the design.
  • Creation and adaption of floorplan.
  • Creation and adaptation of abstracts to aid the physical design in digital flow.
  • Assisting in the creation of project plans with senior engineers and project managers as well as tracking and reporting of their own progress.
  • Verification and solving of DRC, ERC and LVS issues between schematic and layout.
  • Design co-ordination with external partners.

Secondary tasks

TheAnalog/RF Layout Engineer will show initiative and have activity in:
  • IC tool set selection
  • Technology selection
  • Design and verification methodology selection and improvement
  • Co-ordination and management of external partners: foundries, design houses, lead customers etc.
  • IP protection (patent application research)

Profile for this role
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in commercial physical design in RF or analog ICs.
  • Good skills in ASIC design tool usage, e.g., Cadence Virtuoso-XL, PVS and Calibre.
  • Some experience in communication systems IP design: Transceivers, receivers.
  • Some experience in analogue and mixed signal integrated circuits.
  • Some experience of taking design to volume production.
  • Used to working independently and precisely.
  • Good communications skills
  • Fluent in English
