SoftBank Mobile certifies u-blox’ LISA 3G module for 900/2100 MHz
One of Japan’s main mobile operators certifies third u‑blox UMTS/HSPA M2M module
Thalwil, Switzerland – July 18, 2013 – u‑blox, the Swiss wireless and positioning module and chip company, has received approval for its LISA‑U270 UMTS/HSPA module from SoftBank Mobile, one of Japan’s largest mobile operators. The certification enables customers to design the LISA‑U270 modems into M2M devices based on 900/2100 MHz for the Japanese market. Major applications include point of sale and banking terminals, vehicle tracking, industrial automation, metering, public safety and security devices.
“This is the third u‑blox 3G module to be certified by SoftBank Mobile, a further demonstration of their confidence in our modem products. We are especially pleased to offer our customers a choice of 3G modems that are ready to operate over Softbank’s extensive 3G network.” said Tesshu Naka, u‑blox Country Manager, Japan.
The LISA‑U270 is a state‑of‑the art embedded wireless UMTS/HSPA module series delivering high data‑rates with voice and/or data capabilities in 3G networks intended for consumer, automotive and industrial applications. For telematics applications, the series provides easy integration with u‑blox GPS, GLONASS and QZSS receivers.
LISA modules come in SMT form‑factor and have a very small footprint, allowing easy mounting on any application board. The LISA form factor enables easy manufacturing, as well as simple migration from u blox’ LEON and SARA GSM/GPRS modules. Support for A‑GPS and u‑blox’ unique CellLocateTM positioning technology is embedded to facilitate advanced telematics and tracking applications including indoor positioning.
Features include compatibility with quad‑band GPRS/EDGE, low power (idle mode 1.5 mA) and operating temperature –40 to +85 deg. C. RIL software for Android and Embedded Windows is available free of charge from u‑blox.
LISA modules are manufactured in ISO/TS 16949 certified sites and are fully qualified according to ISO 16750 – Environmental conditions and electrical testing for electrical and electronic equipment for road vehicles to provide high durability and reliability.
