| | Press and News - 03.07.2002Integrated datalogging Firmware for TIM
u-blox introduces a free software upgrade for all TIM GPS receivers. This upgrade adds datalogging functionality to standard TIM GPS macro-components. This enhancement enables u-blox customers to benefit from additional functionality without hardware changes. The integrated datalogger stores up to 100'000 data records into an internal FLASH.
The software is available as a free download and can be downloaded to all TIM GPS receivers by using the TIM firmware update tool, made available on the web. The datalogging firmware is fully compatible with the standard firmware.
The datalogger uses the on-board FLASH memory to store data records which contain: Position, velocity, time and receiver status. Additionally the datalogger can be configured to independently log the states of up to 4 digital general purpose I/Os (GPIO) of the receiver.
The datalogger is controlled via the serial port of the GPS receiver. Data compression algorithms allow the storage of up to 100'000 data records on the TIM GPS receivers. The storage format itself and the decompression algorithms are open to customers. User defineable filter parameters allow full control over logging frequency and distance between logging.
With the introduction of TIM in November 2001 u-blox presented a GPS receiver, which can be processed like a single chip component. TIM is SMT solderable and can be handled by standard pick-and-place equipment.
TIM offers excellent GPS performance in an ultra thin (3mm) and small package (25.4mm x 25.4mm). Minimal power consumption and low cost makes the TIM receiver first choice for mobile GPS applications. In automotive applications TIM supports advanced tracking capabilities through fast recovery times combined with reliable operation in "urban canyons" and areas of dense foliage.
With this new integrated datalogger functionality u-blox adds value to the standard TIM GPS receiver. This dramatically simplifies system design for tracking and fleet-management applications and hence reduces costs and speeds up design cycles.
