Press and News - 16.04.2007u-blox selects Spirent® Communications for supply of GNSS development and production test equipmentPaignton, UK -- April 16, 2007 -- Spirent Communications, the leading global provider of navigation and positioning test systems, announces today that it will supply Global Positioning System (GPS) test equipment to u-blox AG, the leading Swiss provider of GPS receiver technology. As part of this agreement, Spirent will provide GSS6100 single channel production test systems to u-blox that will be used in RF development and production testing. Spirent systems will also be used by u-blox field application engineers to enhance customer support. "Controlled testing is important in any serious GPS receiver development," said Daniel Ammann, Head of GNSS Software at u-blox. "At u-blox we take a very structured approach to testing at each stage, from initial research and development through to production. We believe our high product quality is strongly supported by our thorough test approach". Spirent's GSS6100 is an RF GPS signal generator that simulates one satellite signal in a variety of configurations. The GSS6100 is typically deployed in a production environment, where a quick and controlled test of the GPS is needed to ensure performance is within expected parameters. Single channel GPS signal generators are also widely used in RF development environments. For GPS engine development, multi-channel RF constellation simulators are used to characterise and optimise performance. u-blox also uses Spirent RF constellation simulators. "Production testing is an important element in product quality assurance," said John Pottle, marketing director at Spirent's Wireless & Positioning division. "An efficient and reliable test is the priority for all of our customers and the GSS6100 is designed specifically for this purpose. GSS6100 customers also benefit from Spirent's industry-leading signal quality and reliability."
