SuperSense™ Indoor GPS firmware by u-blox now commercially available

THALWIL, Switzerland -- July 21, 2005 -- u-blox AG, the leading GPS module-maker, today announced the availability of the final SuperSense firmware for TIM-LH GPS receiver modules and for the ANTARIS® GPS chipsets. This final release provides an even higher acquisition and reacquisition sensitivity of -148 dBm, cold start sensitivity of up to -142 dBm and excellent tracking sensitivity of up to -158 dBm.

The combination of high sensitivity, excellent positioning accuracy and dynamic navigation performance at low signal levels opens exciting new avenues for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Additionally, its exceptionally low power consumption makes SuperSense ideally suited for power-critical applications such as handheld devices. For instance, SuperSense enables accurate GPS positioning in building interiors, deep urban canyons, covered roads and other locations where GPS reception was, until now, unthinkable. High sensitivity also reduces installation costs as antennas can be moved to interior locations. Excellent dynamic navigation performance makes one-box car navigation devices with built-in antennas possible.

"We are very proud to announce the commercial release of SuperSense technology. Thanks to SuperSense's combination of high sensitivity and accuracy, as well as low power consumption, our customers are now in a prime position to drive the market forward with innovative GPS applications" said Daniel Ammann, Research and Development Vice President.

Ideal for indoor GPS reception, TIM-LH with ANTARIS SuperSense combines superior tracking sensitivity, ultra low power consumption and high navigation performance delivered by the 16 channel ANTARIS positioning engine. It also provides improved acquisition sensitivity for stand-alone and A-GPS operation to enable satellite search and position calculation in difficult areas.

The final SuperSense firmware is immediately available in the TIM-LH module, as well as in SuperSense Evaluation Kits and as licensable stand-alone software for chipset-based designs.
