GPS receiver boards - compatible with industry form factors

Thalwil, Switzerland, 10th September 2002 - u-blox, a provider of GPS based positioning technology, widens its product range. It now offers a range of TIM adaptor boards, which are compatible with industry form factors. System integrators can profit from enhanced GPS performance and reduce implementation time, development costs and risk.

The TIM adaptor boards are OEM GPS receiver boards powered by the u-blox macro- component TIM. Four different form factors emulate the most common industry form factors of GPS receivers: Trimble Lassen LP, Motorola Oncore, Trimble Lassen SK8 and SKII and Conexant Jupiter. They are mechanically and electrically compatible and provide enhanced GPS performance.

For instance the TIM CJ receiver board offers compatibility with the Conexant Jupiter GPS receiver boards. With the same size (71 x 41 x 11 mm) and the same electrical interface the TIM CJ is a plug-and-play replacement for the discontinued product Jupiter. The unit can be powered by either 3.3V or 5V.

GPS receiver boards are widely used in the Telematics and Fleetmanagement industry. Quite often system integrators would like to have a better performance of GPS receivers without changing their system design. By offering adaptor boards for popular form factors u-blox makes the latest GPS technology accessable to these system integrators. The use of TIM adaptor boards reduces time, costs and risks in the implementation of latest technologies.
