13What GPS 1-Channel Signal Simulators would you recommend?

What GPS 1-Channel Signal Simulators would you recommend?

Here's an overview of companies producing Single-Channel GPS Simulators:

- GSS Global Simulation Systems www.gssl.co.uk

GSS produces a PC-based add-on board which acts as a single channel SV simulator. We have not yet evaluated this product.

Our Y2K and WNRO tests were performed on a multi-channel simulator from GSS. The results of this simulator were very satisfactory and gave us a good impression on the capabilities of GSS' products.

- Welnavigate www.welnav.com

We have several of Welnavigate's GS50 Simulators in use. The GS50 is a single channel SV simulator. The attenuation of the signal can be adjusted by two front-panel dials. We are not really happy with this product since its RF shielding is very poor. To get better shielding, we had to enclose the GS50 in another metal case, otherwise you don't get reliable C/N0 measurements.

Wellnavigate also has a product GS100 an (single channel, too). This system is supposed to have better shielding, however, we have not verified this.

- JcAIR Test Systems www.jcair.com

JcAIR produce single channel SV simulators. We have not yet evaluated these.

- IFR www.infrinternational.com

We own an IFR GPS101 Single Channel Simulator 'GPS101'. One nice thing is that it comes complete with a horn antenna, which you can put over a GPS antenna without actually contacting the system physically.

IFR's GPS101 has an electronic attenuator which controls the signal strength in 1dB steps via a dial on the front panel or over an RS232 input. The single-step attenuation may vary from step about +/-0.5dB.

All single channel receivers cost in the order of US$ 5000 to US$ 15000.
