Frequently Asked Questions: ANTARIS FAQ

Topic

2Do you see issues with EGNOS?

Do you see issues with EGNOS?

Yes. Although the data transmitted by the EGNOS satellites are usually good and valuable (e.g. during the solar storms in autumn 2003), they can sometimes be very unreliable, for example when system tests are performed. As an example, u-blox has noticed erroneous range information (up to three hundred kilometers) on various EGNOS satellite over the last few months. u-blox reported this problem to the European Space Agency (ESA). In their reply, ESA wrote "... to avoid any problem/misunderstanding, we think that users should use EGNOS signals for their applications /experiments only after the system operational readiness review and in accordance to the indications on the use of the system provided officially by ESA at that time."

Please refer to u-blox' Recommendations for use of Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) Application Note for more information.
